ITALIA,GRECIA E SPAGNA DI NUOVO INSIEME PER LA PARITA’ DI GENERE.

ITALY, GREECE AND SPAIN UNITED FOR THE GENDER EQUALITY

“There is never enough talk about the need for gender equality especially in sport, a sector which is still often subject to stereotypes and prejudices. Few are the leading women, there is no mention of those who practice so-called male activities, There is not enough talk in general of women’s sport yet of women who talk about sports there are, but even these often do not consider enough. There are among the most varied of initiatives to fight this battle: one of these is the European A.G.E.S. which sees 3 countries in action such as Italy, Greece and Spain with the UISP of Pisa as leader followed by the CORI Institute, UCAM Universidad Catolica de Murcia and the University of Thessaly. Active for a year now, the project aims to verify children’s perception of gender discrimination in sport: over 700 questionnaires were collected per country to be analyzed.

Due to the daily world wide situation – Verter Tursi, project manager explained to us – caused by the Coronavirus, the third A.G.E.S. project meeting took place on internet , organized with all the realities of the different countries to discuss the progress of the analysis of the questionnaires and the best methodology for unifying the different data. Despite the lockdown, work is proceeding in all three countries, and from each of the participants so many ideas are born.

It is a subject that you are passionate about and that there is still a lot to work on, can you already have a forecast on what will emerge from the questionnaires?

Comparing ourselves with the data of Spain the questionnaire does not show that users perceive a strong difference with males and females, while as regards parents, barriers are perceived in the world of sport as regards women. But we still cannot be sure of this result. Since the uncertainty of the situation, the next meeting has been scheduled online in July, hoping that we will be able to reorganize ourselves for September and maintain the scheduled meetings before the final event held in December in Pisa where we will show the project’s results”.
